Sustainable Food from the Forest: Oak Silviculture

Saturday, October 16, 2021

Presenters: Dode Gladders (UNHCE), Jeremy Turner (Meadowsend Consulting), Laura French (Meadowsend Consulting), Lionel Chute (Sullivan County Natural Resources) Register with UNH Cooperative Extension

Silviculture is the art and science of tending forests to meet specific needs.  Forest stands dominated by oak are highly valuable to people and wildlife but are often replaced by other tree species in the absence of careful management.  Please join foresters and natural resource managers for a walk and talk at an ongoing timber harvest designed to regenerate red oak.  We will also discuss reintroducing white oak to the stand and demonstrate a new acorn planter called the "Squirrel".
